
Dr Lewis Owens BA (Hons), MA, PhD (Cantab.), FRHistS.
Founder and Director
Lewis is the founder and Director of EdmissionUK. He is widely regarded as one of the leading education consultants and has previously worked as a university lecturer, admissions tutor and UCAS advisor at a large sixth-form college. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge (Queens’ College) in 2000 and has spoken at numerous academic conferences and symposiums at leading schools and universities throughout the world. Lewis has published extensively in areas of literature, philosophy and the arts and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2024 in recognition of his contribution to historical scholarship. Lewis is acknowledged as one of the world's leading experts on the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis and his most recent publication – an edited anthology featuring the work of leading international scholars – will be released later this year. He is also a published novelist and playwright.
As the father of an autistic university student, Lewis has a particular passion for neurodiversity within post-16 and Higher Education, ensuring that neurodivergent and under-represented students are able to maximize their personal and academic potential. As well as comprehensive university guidance, Lewis also assists with issues of anxiety, low self-esteem, peer pressure, motivation and confidence, particularly within the neurodivergent student community. He has served as a Trustee for Autism Action (previously the Autism Research Trust and the Autism Centre of Excellence at Cambridge) for almost 10 years and is a former Trustee of the Prisoners’ Education Trust. Lewis is a member of the National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP) and works alongside professional staff at many UK universities to maintain access and support to autistic undergraduate and postgraduate students. Lewis is the co-author of two recent articles on autism in leading peer-reviewed academic journals, collaborating with researchers from different UK universities as well as NHS practitioners. He recently became a Visiting Research Fellow in the Autism Research Centre, Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge. Lewis also has a strong interest in Medicine and assists with securing medically-related work experience. He holds Professional Membership to the European Society of Cardiology.
As part of our long-standing commitment to charitable and philanthropic work, Lewis established The St Martin’s Challenge in 2018, which has to date supported over 50 different charities assisting individuals often on the margins of society. In 2021 Lewis endowed the Dr Lewis Owens Travel Bursary at Queens’ College, Cambridge, to support postgraduate students with limited financial means to attend academic conferences. Dr Tanya Ursova Owens BA (Hons), MMus, LRAM, PhD
Senior Academic Consultant
Tanya has been advising on undergraduate and postgraduate applications in the UK as part of the EdmissionUK team for more than 15 years and has a particular specialism in humanities, arts and social sciences as well as a strong personal interest in STEM subjects. She has considerable experience of preparing students for essay competitions, work experience placements, taster courses, summer schools and European university applications, having served as EdmissionUK’s Senior European Universities Consultant for more than 10 years.
Tanya initially trained as a concert pianist at the Donetsk Prokofiev Music Conservatoire in Ukraine before being awarded an entrance scholarship by the Royal Academy of Music in London to continue her studies as a postgraduate. Having become a prize winner of two international piano competitions (the IPTA in Paris in 1997 and the Konzerteum – 1998 in Athens), after her graduation in 2002 Tanya was invited to join the museum research team at the Royal Academy of Music, where she worked for 10 years alongside her involvement with EdmissionUK. Having completed her master’s and PhD degrees in the UK, she has expert knowledge of postgraduate university applications, with an extremely high success rate of helping students gain places on the most competitive master’s and PhD programmes worldwide. Tanya leads all aspects of academic consultancy at EdmissionUK, including arranging university visits, advising on the choice of universities and courses, assisting with the application process and providing interview practice preparation. She has navigated the entire educational journey from primary to high school to university and beyond both as an education professional and as a mother.
Tanya regularly gives piano recitals as part of our St Martin’s Challenge charitable initiative, including performances for The Prisoners’ Education Trust (Royal Academy of Music, 2023), the Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, University of Cambridge (1901 Arts Club, 2024) and Autism Action (Royal Academy of Music, 2025).
