After initially studying Medicine at Oxford University for 1 year, Gavin subsequently switched to study at Durham University, obtaining both a degree and PhD in Chemistry. More recently, he obtained a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from Durham Business School. He started his career on the Research and Development (R&D) graduate programme with Procter & Gamble, before going on to spend very successful spells working in R&D for Mars, Reckitt Benckiser plc and Cadbury plc. He is currently the R&D Director for the Global Cocoa Business Unit at Barry Callebaut (the world's largest B2B manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products), managing a global team of 40 people and reporting in at executive board level. For this role, he is currently based in France. During his career, Gavin has worked across the food and non-food (personal care, healthcare, household cleaning) consumer goods sectors, and has successfully introduced many new products to the market.
