Mr Rob Phillips
Rob’s
background covers womenswear, promotion and
illustration, that consequently developed into a vast, compelling portfolio of
excellence, commanding those fields and branching out into design direction, styling
and identity projects, new designer mentoring, fashion image making,
presentation and fashion lecturing. He is now the Creative Director at London
College of Fashion for the School of Design & Technology.
After
choosing to pursue fashion illustration Rob soon built up relationships within
fashion media, resulting in his appointment as Fashion Editor at International
Textiles magazine, and subsequently becoming the Creative Director of Fashion
Forecast magazine, bringing it a new ethos and new life with a committed focus
on graduate and up-and-coming designers. The magazine garnered acclaim from the
industry as an ‘inspirational resource like no other, for an industry in need
of fresh air”.
Soon
after Fashion Forecast’s revival, Rob was approached by the academic sector to
tutor fashion students. Given the role of Visiting Lecturer followed by the
permanent position of Senior Lecturer, Rob channelled all his energy and ideas
into developing the new generation of fashion designers, preparing them for the
industry and highlighting all the opportunities and possibilities open to them.
Rob constantly and consistently strives to push his students beyond their
academic requirements, forging a creative backbone within them to enter the
professional world with confidence and pride.
Rob
still continues with his external fashion affairs so as to stay in touch with
what’s ‘new’, liaising on an advisory level with new designers and like-minded
creative people, promoting his students and London College of Fashion, reporting
and illustrating for a variety of magazines and private commissions.
